Frequently Asked Questions

  • UV-C

    What is UV-C?

Shortwave ultraviolet (UV-C) is the classification for light with a wavelength between 100 and 280 nanometers, which exists entirely beyond the visible color spectrum (about 380–740 nm). For over a century, UV-C has been used in hospitals, offices and homes to render germs, bacteria and viruses inert.

    Can UV-C actually kill germs?

It definitely can. But don’t just take our word for it. There’s a lot of peer-reviewed science to back it up, much of which you can find on our Research page.

    Does Airetrex 365 emit ozone?

Absolutely not. Read why we don’t like ozone here.

Does the Airetrex 365 comply with California's air cleaner regulation (AB2276)?

Yes! The Airetrex 365 meets California ozone emissions limit and is CARB certified.

Does UV-C kill the COVID-19 virus?

Due to the speed and severity of the COVID-19 outbreak, there’s still a lot we don’t know about UV-C efficacy against SARS-CoV-2. Initial research has been promising, but we want to wait until a scientific consensus is reached before we make any definitive statements. Remember that no home air sanitizer can completely guarantee safety from coronavirus (or any other airborne illness), so it’s vitally important that you follow all current CDC recommendations and guidelines.

  • Fan

    How quickly does air circulate?

At high speed, Airetrex is capable of circulating air at about 66 cubic feet per minute. Depending on the size and shape of the room, that speed translates to anywhere between 3 and 5 full air cycles per hour.

    Does Airetrex make noise?

At high speed, the fan in Airetrex generates about 50 decibels (roughly equivalent to the volume of a small floor fan). The volume may be noticeable in particularly small or quiet rooms, but it fades easily into the background of most standard rooms.

    Can Airetrex be wall-mounted?

No. If the back of the unit is covered, air will not circulate properly. We recommend placing your unit on a floor or table/counter with 6 inches of clearance between the wall and the back of the unit.

  • Safety

    Is UV-C safe?

Airetrex is designed with safety in mind. UV-C, like many technologies, poses a certain amount of risk when used improperly. But thanks to a centrally-placed UV bulb surrounded by a proprietary reflective chamber, you and your loved ones are never subjected to the risks of unfiltered UV-C light.

Has the safety of Airetrex 365 been independently verified?

Airetrex meets all UL 507 standards for electric appliance safety, and the UV light component has been evaluated by Intertek quality assurance experts.

There’s a faint blue glow in my Airetrex. Should I be worried?

Not at all. Remember that UV light is beyond the visible spectrum. In other words: if you can see it, it’s not UV. Sometimes, the inert gas inside the UV-C bulb creates a blue glow as a byproduct, but that’s totally normal and not a sign of a safety hazard.

Is Airetrex 365 safe to use around small children and pets?

Yes, when used as instructed. Read more about UV safety on our Technology page. The touchscreen display also includes a Child Lock function, which prevents any accidental changes made by little fingers.

Is Airetrex 365 safe to use near house plants?

Yes, when used as instructed. Read more about UV safety on our Technology page.

  • Use

Do I need to keep my windows open while I use it?

No. You would need to keep them open if Airetrex 365 emitted ozone, but it doesn’t.

How can I tell if my Airetrex is functioning?

Both UV-C and germs are invisible to the naked eye, which can make it hard to know whether or not Airetrex is making a difference. So long as the UV bulb is on and air is circulating around it, we assure you that Airetrex is working properly. If you need more evidence, however, there are some simple experiments you can conduct at home to test the effectiveness of your purifier.

Can Airetrex be used like a UV wand?

No. Airetrex 365’s UV-C bulb is fixed within the unit and cannot be used for standalone applications. Improper use of UV light for prolonged periods may result in personal injury.

    Does Airetrex produce heat?

No. So it’s perfect for use in small spaces (nurseries, dorm rooms, etc.) in any season.

  • Cost/Pricing

Is Airetrex 365 costly to operate?

No! Airetrex requires the same energy input as a 40-Watt bulb. Depending on local energy prices, a full day of continuous runtime will cost you about a dime ($0.10).

    Do you offer multi-product discounts?

We offer discounts on purchases of five or more Airetrex units. See our Pricing page for offer specifics and discount tiers.

    I’m a teacher / healthcare worker / etc. Can I have a discount?

While we value your important work and value your safety, we unfortunately aren’t able to provide industry-specific discounts at this time.

  • Shipping

    Can I return it?

If you are unsatisfied with your Airetrex 365 unit for any reason, you may return it within the 60-day return period. Just return it in its original packaging, and we’ll refund the full purchase price.

    How quickly does Airetrex ship?

Products typically ship from our warehouse within two business days. Delivery times may vary, depending on your location and other factors. Once you place an order, we’ll send you shipping updates and delivery estimates as they become available.

  • Maintenance

Do I need to clean the inside?

Probably not. Once rendered inert by UV-C, harmless germs are no different than microscopic dust particles. As such, you won’t need to clean your Airetrex interior any more than you need to clean out your home HVAC system.

How long does the UV bulb last?

On average, an Airetrex UV-C bulb lasts about two years or 8,000 hours (whichever comes first). The onboard indicator will alert you when it’s time to replace the bulb, and you can purchase a new one anywhere Airetrex 365 is sold.

    How long is the warranty?

Every unit comes with a 365-day limited product warranty and a 60-day money-back guarantee. No questions asked.

  • General

    How does Airetrex work?

Airetrex uses a fan to circulate air through a high-intensity UV-C light source, which is located safely inside the unit. The air and light bounce around a reflective chamber, and the light damages the DNA in airborne bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. The purified air is then reintroduced to the room. Learn more about how Airetrex works on our Technology page.

How many units do I need?

In general, we recommend one Airetrex 365 unit for every room separated by a door. For open-concept layouts or large spaces, we recommend one unit for every 300 square feet of trafficked floor area.
